1 Corinthians 2:1-10

2 When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.
Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. But we speak God’s wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the human heart conceived,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

Dear Church Family,

This weekend we celebrate Labor Day and it officially marks the end of summer. But it’s also named “Labor Day” for a reason. It is a time to remember all the workers who have helped to build our country. But it is also a time to celebrate all the workers how have continued to build our church.  Who am I talking about? YOU! When I look at at you from the pulpit on Sunday, I think of something each one of you have done to keep our little church moving forward. We not only survived during the almost 2 year long ordeal with COVID but we have thrived with new missions on the horizon. As I write this we are expanding our outreach with the new “Community Clothing Ministry.” The newly renovated Food Pantry now allows our clients to pick and choose their own food. Thank you! Thank you for the steady, good work you have done to keep us on track. We  are “A Church on the Move!”

Just a reminder, the following Sunday begins our Fall Kick off and we will gather together as a community for lunch together. It’s called  “Walking Taco Sunday.”

The choir is returning and Cindy Lam will be back, the Women’s Bible study will begin a new study, and we will begin an adult education series focused on spiritual reflections on individual life experiences. The series is called “Nooma” and the word comes from a phonetic spelling of the Greek word pneuma meaning “wind”, “spirit” or “breath”. Sounds interesting doesn’t it?  I hope you will join us after worship for these moving spiritual reflections. No book is required and each week will be a totally different topic so come as it fits into your schedule. All these events start the Sunday after Labor Day!

God’s peace,
Pastor Barbara

Living within God’s Story

This Sunday I will be preaching on 1 Corinthians 2:1-10. It is Paul’s story about how God has been working in his life. For Paul his own life story is found within God’s story. It causes me to pause and ask, “what is your story and how is it found within God’s story?” How we engage in difficult conversations and how we see ourselves in interpreting our relationships with others is all bound together in God’s story.  We will again look  at the insights from a book, “Crucial Conversations,” and see how the authors can help us find our own story about who we are and to whom we belong.

See you Sunday!

We are committed to adhering to all precautionary measures to ensure no cross-contamination with clients. The Food Pantry Donation drop box always seems to be filled. As you check on your neighbors, please share with them that our food pantry is open and ready to help anyone who needs food!

Food continues to appear in our food box.  Almost daily there is something donated and many times from people we don’t even know! I want to send a special thanks to all those faithful shoppers who each week pick up the special things we need. It is an ongoing blessing to be so graciously supported by your donations and donations from our community.
